2014-2015 Orchesis Dance Company Auditions
Mandatory Parent/Dancer Informational Meeting:
- Tuesday, April 15th
- 7pm, C202
- Main Campus

Optional Workshop:
- Friday, April 17th
- 3:45-6pm, Aux and Dance Gym
- Gold Campus
- Wear black dance attire and shoes
- Signed parent waiver is required for participation
- Schedule:
* 3:45-4pm registration & warm-up
* 4-5pm Session 1 (hip hop & jazz)
* 5-6pm Session 2 (hip hop & jazz)
** Participation in the workshop does not guarantee or exclude membership from the company **
Company Audition Overview:
- Only 1 spring auditon
- Closed audition
- Judged by the Artistic Directors
- Judging is private and confidential
- Show casting is determined by the Artistic Directors and will be announced in the fall
Company Audition Dates:
- May 5th to May 8th
- 4pm, Auxiliary Gym
- Gold Campus
Styles: (dancers audition by style of dance)
- Jazz
- Hip hop
- Contemporary
- Lyrical
- Ballet
- Pointe
- Tap
* Dancers only need to be proficient in ONE style to be a company member. However, jazz and hip hop dancers are featured in the opening and finale.
Company Audition Schedule:
- Monday, May 5th
- 4-7pm Jazz
-Tuesday, May 6th
- 4-7pm Hip Hop
Wednesday, May 7th
- 4-6pm Lyrical & Contemporary, 6-7 Ballet & Pointe
Thursday, May 8th
- 4-5pm Tap, 5-7pm Call backs & Open Audition (must prepare 1 minute of original choreography for open division)
Dress:
- Wear solid black dance attire
- Wear shoes appropriate for each genre
- Pull hair back
- Appear "performance ready"
Company Eligibility:
- Freshman through senior NVHS students during the 2013-2014 academic year
- Open to males and females
- Passing 5 out of 7 classes
- Can attend regularly scheduled rehearsals and performances
* cannot participate in a fall or winter NVHS sport
* cannot audition if you have made Poms for the 2013-2014 season
- Dance background recommended, but not necessary
- Completed audition packet
* copy of UP-TO-DATE physical
* copy of insurance card
* copy of 1st semester report card
* audition form
* character assessment
* head shot
Choreography Auditions:
- Wednesday, May 21st
- 3-7pm, Gold Dance Gym
* Only returning members are eligible to choreograph for the Showcase*
Time Commitment: (not every dancer is present at every rehearsal or performance)
- Rehearsals two times a week from August through Novemeber
- Rehearsals three times a week from December through February
Financial Commitment:
- Dancers are asked to puchase a warm-up, spirit wear, and shoes (approximately $200)
- Costumes are property of NVHS Orchesis Dance Company ($30 rental fee)
Welcome Party:
- Friday, May 9th
- 4-6pm
- Faculty Cafe, Main building
